Echternach and its Benedictine monastery
The beautiful city of Echternach is on the banks of the Sûre river, which forms the border with neighboring Germany.Mullerthal and German-Luxembourg Natural Park are nearby, and the surrounding forests are crossed by hundreds of paths leading to spectacular rocky formations, waterfalls, a lake and numerous wonderful points of view.The old aristocratic houses, the narrow and ancient streets helped Echternach keep their medi appearance.The basilica, considered the most important religious building in the country, houses a crypt with a magnificent white marble that contains the remains of Saint Willibrord, the founder of the monastery, and his vaults are painted with frescoes dating from 10th century.May by the end of June.The city also offers excellent meals for its many restaurants, as well as numerous shops and boutique galleries, a variety of top and camping hotels.
