Antimachia Castle

Image 1 of 13

This impressive medi fortress is located in the center of the island, in the southeast of the village of Antimachia. The Venetians began in the fourteenth century, and the inion above the gate denotes the fact that the Venetian Castle was built even more in 1494 by the knights of Saint John, just like the Neratzi Castle. However, it is rumored that Antimachia would have been used as prison for convicted knights.Despite numerous attacks over many years, the exterior fortifications of the castle are still strong. The only entrance of the castle is found in the double gates of the northern part of the fortress.Inside the church, there is not much, but you can see the two Venetian churches built in the 16th and 18th centuries.Although the churches are not as old as the original structure, they still serve.Antimachia Castle is free for visitors and is open daily.
