The ancient Agora was once the main Kos market.Exposed by an earthquake in 1933, today the area is full of archaeological discoveries, including scraps of mosaics, columns, temples, houses and bathrooms. There is also evidence of an altar of Aphrodite, a small temple related to Hercules and a Christian basilica dating from the 5th century. The location of Agora near the port made it the perfect meeting place and an excellent location for the movement and marketing of the goods brought to the port. The entrance to Agora is free, and the site is open daily to visitors.
