Mahebourg

Image 9 of 15

Mahébourg is the place to experience the old Mauritius, although few ventures in this old capital.Built where the Dutch landed for the first time at the end of the 16th century, here you will find rustic restaurants with beautiful terraces, a lively market, beautiful beaches and tasty street food. There is a small cute museum here, with exhibits detailing the British-French battle for the island, as well as the bell saved from Le Saint-Géran, a shipwreck that is part of the local legends in Mauritius. It is a sleeping city, but those who arrive here return again and again.
