Monastere-Notre-Dame-de-CiMIEZ

Near the Matisse Museum and surrounded by beautiful gardens, Monastère Notre-Dame-de-Cimiez is in the elegant neighborhood of Cimiez city just above the ancient ruins of Cemenelum, which has interesting remains of the Roman bath and the amphitheater.Initially a Benedictine Foundation, the monastery was taken over by Franciscans in the sixteenth century and extended in the seventeenth century.Its current appearance is characterized by the restoration made according to the Gothic models of 1850. Inside the church there are fine altarpieces of the school from Nice, including a crucifix of Bréa dating from 1475. The outer square offers an extraordinary view and has a marble cross dating from 1477.The 13th centuries until the eighteenth century.The visit offers a perspective on the general spiritual and social activity of the Franciscan Order.
