The city was crossed, until the middle of the 20th century, by the Turia river.In 1957, following floods that devastated Urbea, the councilors decided to remove the river from the city, draining its course artificially to the south.On the site of the old river remained a huge space that would be transformed by the Catalan architect Ricardo Bofill in what today is called the Turia gardens - a 120 -hectare park that sends to the idea of Mourea gardens.
