Park from Colline Du Château (Hill Park Castle)

Image 10 of 12

On a hill overlooking the coast of Nice, the site of Hill Castle was the first area of Nice, to be inhabited by the Greeks two millennia ago.Once considered impregnable, the fortress was destroyed by the soldiers of the French king Louis XIV in 1706. Now, the property is set as entirely as a park. This idyllic place is a pleasant oasis of greenery, shady trees and waterfalls that rush. The park inspires visitors to enjoy a quiet walk and admit the spectacular views. From this point of view, Panorama includes Bath des Anges, Vieille Ville and Nice Port.Inside the park, boutiques and restaurants, as well as the ruins of two old churches deserve to be seen.At night, Colline du Château is illuminated with special lighting effects.Another option is to take the small tourist train leaving at the end of the year Quai des états-unis.After visiting the park, tourists can take the steps that go from Colline du Château to Promenade des Anglais, along the pass of Tour Belland. This massive 16th century tower was built on the site of Saint-Lambert Bastion, where Hector Berlioz composed his "King Lear" opera. The tower houses the Naval Museum (Maritime Museum).
