The ancient settlement of Ariminum increased where two important ancient roads, via Aemilia and via Flaminia, met about 150 kilometers south of Venice, on the banks of the Adriatic. It became the Roman colony of Rimini in 268 BC.And it became a busy port and, in the late 1800s, a popular beach resort.

About

Given that she was strongly hit by the bombings of World War II, Rimini still has a surprising amount of her Roman past. The long beaches, with white sand, which stretch to the north and south of the port, are still popular tourist attractions of the Riviera del Sole, as the Italians call their Adriatic Coast.

The Malatesta spouses, the family that ruled here from the 13th century, were great patrons of the arts and left the city a series of beautiful buildings and works of art.
